Beehives, Fashion, and the Economy

I got my hair done yesterday.  My stylist told me that he was recently at a beauty show and that the beehive is back in style.  If you're old enough, you'll remember this hair style from the 60's--teased and laquered, high, not wide.

A theory about the resurgence of "pouffy" hair can be found in a recent New York Magazine blog.  The economy!  Here's the quote from Stephanie Kocielski, artistic director of John Paul Mitchell Systems--"Because many women are resisting fashion purchases, the only real area where people can inlfuence change right now is their hair.  The bigger the hair, the closer to God."

I've blogged about the "lipstick index" and nail polish in a down economy. Shorter skirts are supposed to predict a rising market.  But here's an interesting tidbit I found--Playboy's Playmate of the Year tend to be more mature (heavier, older, less curvy) during poor economic times.  What fun to see how the economy influences our vision of beauty.
