Learn to Knit Lace

You'd love to have a delicate, lacy cashmere (or silk or wool) scarf or shawl. But what you can find in retail is either too expensive or not your color. Why not learn to knit your own lace? I'll be teaching a beginning lace class in August. We'll be using the Biased Toward Lace Scarf pattern. Here's the start of mine using a variegated (mint, periwinkle, off-white) Belisa cashmere.

This will be a two session class on Thursday evening, August 13 and 20, in Los Altos. It is suitable for advanced beginners who can cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. If you have never knit on laceweight yarn and are a little wary, you can knit the scarf with the yarn doubled using larger needles. This will give a thicker scarf. If you want a lighter scarf, then you can knit with a single strand on smaller needles. The above photo is single strand on a US size 4 circular needle.
Items you need to supply: US size 4 or US size 8 straight or circular needles, stitch markers, tapestry needle, row counter, and dental floss.
Skills you will learn: working with laceweight yarn, reading charts, increases and decreases, using lifelines, blocking.
After this session, we will follow up with a more advanced lace knitting project--a sampler stole--which will increase your lace knowledge and skills.
Registration will be available later this week at www.fullthreadahead.com. The cost will include class both nights and your choice of variegated or solid Belisa Australian cashmere. Email questions to me at pat@patgrayincolor.com or call me at 510-593-8805.
